Elmwood Park Zoo Norristown PA is a fun and educational place to visit with the family. The zoo offers many different activities for kids, including carousel rides (additional cost) and a percussion playground.

Guests can also enjoy a variety of weekend and seasonal events, such as Breakfast with Giraffes and Treetop Adventures. The zoo is currently undergoing a revamp to include a new state-of-the-art animal hospital and welcome center. See more.

The Carousel

During their heyday on Atlantic City and Coney Island, ornately carved carousels entertained kids of all ages. But as popularity faded, the classic merry-go-rounds were relegated to museums and private collections, including this one at Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown.

This classic wooden amusement ride features animals carved by master woodworker Frederick Dilworth of Chester County. Dilworth’s creations have greeted visitors at venues across the country, and he also designed a set of carousel animals for Polo Ralph Lauren stores.

A trip to the zoo would not be complete without a ride on this charming, historic attraction. Other fun activities include a large playground, percussion playground, and ropes course. The zoo offers educational programs that are included in the cost of admission.

The Train

One of the things that I love about this zoo is that as soon as you walk in, you are right next to animal enclosures. And if you happen to be in the right place at the right time, they have plenty of caretakers standing by to talk about the animals and their behaviors.

There is also a nice Thomas Kimmel Playground and Carousel (additional cost), as well as food vendors throughout the zoo. And for those looking for an adventure, they have Treetop Adventures which is included in your zoo ticket! So get ready for a WILD day out! Discover more exciting places here.

The Exotic Animals

When it comes to exotic animals, Elmwood Park Zoo does not disappoint. The zoo’s small size allows visitors to get up close and personal with the creatures.

The zoo is home to over 300 animals, mostly from North and South America in natural settings. Guests can also participate in daily animal feedings and shows.

Other activities at the zoo include Zoo Revue, Breakfast with Giraffes, and a beer garden. The zoo also hosts special events like Family Fun Day and Yappy Hours.

For an adrenaline rush, check out Treetop Adventures and glide fifty feet in the air over the zoo’s animal enclosures! The kids will love it!

The Petting Zoo

If you’re looking for a more laid-back, more natural feeling experience than Philly Zoo, the Elmwood Park Zoo is definitely worth visiting. Besides animals, they have a lot of exciting attractions for visitors of all ages.

They have special days and events, such as Breakfast with Giraffes and Zoo Revue that are included with regular zoo admission. They also offer Treetop Adventures, a rope, and zip line course that takes you 50 feet above the ground over the animal exhibits. It’s something you have to see to believe! They even let you feed their giraffes, which is a cool experience that Philly Zoo doesn’t have.

The Farm Animals

The Elmwood Park Zoo is a small zoo that is home to hundreds of animals, all indigenous to North America. There are daily animal shows and pony rides. The zoo also offers educational programs and hands-feeding experiences.

The zoo has several exhibits that showcase a wide variety of species, including the Chilean flamingo and the capybara. It has also made commitments to wildlife conservation and is involved in the Species Survival Plan for many of its animals.

The zoo hosts special events throughout the year, including “Boo at the Zoo” in October and Wild Lights during the holiday season. Check the website for details.

The Wild Lights

The zoo’s annual Wild Lights event is a must-visit during the holidays. It features thousands of lights adorning the trees, exhibits, and buildings across the entire zoo’s 16 acres. It is designed, installed, and produced by world-renowned entertainment company GES Events.

The zoo houses animals from all over the world and their natural habitats. Kids can enjoy the Bayou, the farm, the grasslands, and even South/Central America during their day out! This is a great zoo for kids to get up close and personal with a variety of animals. Unlike other zoos, it’s not as overwhelming for little ones. They can also let out their energy at the Thomas Kimmel Playground. Find out more!
